My name is Dr. Melissa Schaeffer and I have been practicing occupational therapy for 17 years. I
received specialty board certification in pediatric therapy from the American Occupational Therapy
Association in 2015 which was renewed in 2021. I have worked in all settings available to pediatric OT:
hospital, school, outpatient clinic, early intervention, and private home care. I have a strong background
in sensory processing disorder (with advanced certification since 2010), neurorehabilitation (stroke,
brain injury, spinal cord injury, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy), concussion rehabilitation/vision
therapy, and early intervention with advanced training in feeding, NICU graduates, and torticollis (neck
muscle imbalance). As an assist supervisor of a major NYC hospital and an assistant professor for a
masters and doctoral level OT program, I have accessed the most advanced technologies and training to
help me develop into the highly skilled therapist I am today. I look forward to helping your child meet his
